Travel to you:  I typically conduct one or two-day seminars. A significant portion of the expense for the seminar is covered by Mentor.Me. Travel is separate and paid by the institution.

The seminars offered by Mentor.Me grew out of a curriculum Kirk created for the Maine Media Workshop. These classes can also be attended there.

  • Over 200 hours of programs for numerous broadcast clients has given me a seasoned and practical eye in helping filmmakers craft a successful show/series.  The time and intensity of the consulting would be agreed upon. A significant portion of the consultation fee are covered by Mentor.Me. If travel is required, those expenses are separate.

Frequently, following classes or seminars I’ve taught, I’ve been approached by filmmakers who were students in the class who would like me to consult or advise them with a project they are pursuing. With Mentor.Me that process can now be equitably subsidized.

  • As long as Lisa and I have run Lone Wolf Media (see bio for details) we have kept the idea of mentorship as a pillar of our business plan. In the three decades that we have operated we have had dozens of young, ambitious filmmakers begin their careers at Lone Wolf. While many have moved on, a great many are still part of the Lone Wolf family as respected freelancers and staffers. As a filmmaker who greatly benefited from mentors throughout my own career, I have always made an effort to guide and motivate the folks whose first professional film experience began with us at Lone Wolf. A list of these ‘alumnae’ that are now working professionals would be long and impressive; a fact of which Lisa and I are extremely proud.

  • Another objective is to help filmmakers who are pursuing a not-for-profit project manage their production by acting as their fiscal agent.

The film and TV industry is changing, and the commissioning model is not as prevalent as it has been over the past forty years. Broadcasters and streamers are buying less content, which leaves many important films, and many talented filmmakers, out in the cold.

As a natural extension to my work as a mentor to young filmmakers, I want to extend that opportunity to help those filmmakers make their documentaries when traditional funding models aren’t available to them.

A common method of film-funding outside of the broadcaster-paid model is to solicit donations. Most donors require the ability to write these donations off as charitable giving, which requires a fiscal agent with 501(c)3 status.

We would look to make Mentor.Me available to take on donor-funded projects and thereby help to fund and grow Mentor.Me for the future. Our goal would be to charge a nominal operational cost for providing fiscal support to a project. This would allow us to operate on the interest generated by the principle and to add additional money by helping to manage the financial aspect of other non-profit projects.

Please send us a brief synopsis of your film, the projected budget, and intended audience (broadcast/streaming, film festival, educational, or non-broadcast project for private use). Please note, IRS 501(c)3 limits can affect the types of projects we can help to manage.
